Millie Mags is a multidisciplinary artist whose creativity is driven by the environment. Frequently immersing herself in nature, the artist creates pieces inspired by structures encountered. Patterns in nature and organic subject matter are recurring themes across the artists portfolio. Being drawn to experimentation in practice, Millie Mags explores a range of methods of making within various mediums.
Artist Statement
Spending time outside helps to regulate me and nature has become the root of my creativity. I am drawn to textures and colour; finding that no matter what I create, some reference to organic form is present. I truly would not be me if I did not create. Sketchbooks and artworks piling up around me, brimming with works, both completed or yet to be resolved, to bring my inner world to life in any way possible. My aim has always, and will always be to create. Some pieces have meanings relating to my life or the world around me; others are paying homage to the beauty of the natural world.
I have a number of diagnosis that influence my life, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, endometriosis and a genetic condition affecting my connective tissues. Inclusivity, accessibility, equity and diversity are essential frameworks to me; I aim to live without limitations, ensuring I grasp any and every opportunity available to me.
I have pursued a career in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) sector - teaching in additional needs settings, art studios and delivering 1:1 sessions to private clients. I aim to emanate the support I received from Learning Support and Visual Arts teachers from over the years. They took time to connect and support, going above and beyond the specifications of their job. I reflect on these role models and aim to project their positivity, care and patience in my own professional practice.
Services
Collaborations and Commissions
I am open to collaborating with artists, collectives and organisations as requested. Please contact me via email to discuss ideas and opportunities. To request a commission please email me with a description of the piece in question, scale, timeframe and budget. Commissions will not be taken on if I am unable to complete the brief to the timeframe, if the style does not align with my practice, or if the request is to replicate another artists work.
Private Tuition
Remote or in person 1:1 sessions for those wishing to develop their creative portfolio and practice, or those undertaking their GCSE’s, IGCSE’s, A Levels or FE qualification in Art and Design. I offer personalised support dependent on practical skills and existing portfolio work. I can offer tuition aligned to specific exam board content and marking criteria. Portfolio reviews and evaluations are also available.
Personal Assistance
Remote or in person 1:1 sessions for individuals with complex needs. These sessions centre on emotional wellbeing support by focussing on relationship building and supporting hobbies and interests. My professional experience in SEND education informs these sessions and enables me to respond to specific needs accordingly. I am also able to provide administrative support as required or discuss any other specifications also.
Commissions
I was approached by Sean Hook in 2024 to design a logo for his massage business ‘Enable’. Sean works with the additional needs community, integrating occupational therapy into his practice. He requested a design close to an existing piece of work entitle ‘BE HAPPY!’. I reworked the piece, altering the palette to reflect the type of work Sean does. I additionally provided a text based logo to allow for brand identity across different print media.
“These are amazing, thank you so much for your time and work. I am so excited to update my website and get some advertisements going with your design on. I value art and time massively, thank you or putting in the effort and creating something so awesome!”
